review 1: I really enjoyed The Proposal. I was given this book from a Goodreads giveaway. The story centres on Amy, An American living in London trying to make her way in the world as a dancer. She applies for a job as a chaperone to an elderly lady; Georgia, who wants to spend Christmas in New York. They become unlikely friends during the 4 days. I liked the way that not only does the book span two continents but also two timeframes as the modern day story includes flashback to Georgia’s youth as one of the last debutantes in 1958. It’s definitely a romance but more than that as the historical detail concerning the debutante’s lives give a glimpse into a forgotten world of rank and privilege in British society. I guessed what the ending might be for Amy but Georgia was ... morea surprise.
review 2: This is my first Tasmina Perry book and I really enjoyed. It was a beautiful story with a bittersweet ending. The story starts off with Amy who is about to go to a fancy dinner with her boyfriend. Her boyfriend's parents don't approve of Amy and her career as a dancer. The two break-up after an argument. In order to heal and find a chance to get back to New York to be with her family for Christmas Amy decides to take on the job of a companion to an older lady named Georgia. As Amy and Georgia progress through their New York trip, Amy learns about Georgia's past (the story weaves back and forth between present day and during Georgia's younger life) and delves into why Georgia is alone now in her old age and does not talk to her family. I really enjoyed the past story of Georgia. I would definitely recommend it. less
