review 1: This story lagged in the middle--I still feel like I was left hanging a bit with the story of Nicolas' father and with other aspects of the story as well. I did like the ending, but there were so many characters that were left undeveloped. There were parts of the story that I found extremely repetitive--we get it, Nicolas is a selfish jerk who let fame go to his head... Overall, I would not recommend this book to a friend---but I liked the story enough to finish it!
review 2: I find I am usually a contrarian when it comes to books that are universally loved or hated. Not so in this case. The Other Story has a terrible Goodreads rating, and I find that I have to agree with the sentiment. This novel just didn't succeed on any level - the family secret that ... morewas teased out over the entirety of the story, the redemption of the main character in the present day story, or any of the character traits that were told repeatedly, but not really shown over the course of the book. Disappointing. less
