review 1: 2.5Perhaps this short story would appeal more to those more of the sci-fi bend than I am. I liked it a lot at the beginning, but sort of started getting bored in the middle, though the ending was interesting. Some of the concepts explored were definitely intriguing, but a lot of it started sounded like techno-babble to sound impressive. Also, I was distracted, in all the talk of how limited the language is and in Leon's creatin of a new language, since we were, of course, still reading in our normal language. I don't know why, but I found that particular part very bothersome.
review 2: 5.0 stars. Another brilliant, original story by arguably the best writer of science fiction short stories working today. This story involves a man who suffers brain damage from a
... moren accident and receives an experimental drug that has the side effect of increasing his intelligence exponentially. Superb writing and a great story. HIGHEST POSSIBLE RECOMMENDATION!! Nominee: Hugo Award for Best Novelette (1992). less

Ending was too abrupt, though continuation would be another story all together.

Somewhat similar to Limitless and Flowers for Algernon. IMHO, better done.

Interesting Sci-Fi: Borges meets Phillip K. Dick.
