review 1: A Pet For Fly Guy by Ted Arnold is beautifully done with colorful and engaging illustrations. Fly Guy wants a pet because everyone he knows has a pet. He is Buzz's pet. Fly Guy in the end finds the best pet of all. Children will love this fiction book because of its simplicity and the illustrator's attention to detail. Fly Guy and Buzz are very lovable characters. This would be a great story time read. Preschool children are the targeted audience.
review 2: Although it helps to have read the earlier books featuring Buzz and his friend Fly Guy, I still enjoyed this one a great deal and think young readers will be able to figure out most of the background. As best friends do, the two spend time together each day, doing what they love best. But the fly in t... morehe ointment--excuse the pun!--is that Fly Guy doesn't have a pet of his own. Buzz valiantly searches for the perfect pet, but none of them is quite right. A puppy licks him, a kitty swipes at him, and a frog chases him. Eventually, it occurs to Fly Guy that Buzz would make the perfect pet, and the two walk off into the sunset, arguing about who is the best pet. I smiled throughout most of this picture book and really liked the last page of the book with its repeated argument and shrinking illustrations. The digital illustrations created using Photoshop really make these two come alive. Fly Guy seems to translate well to the picture book format. less
