review 1: The cover art for this story is what drew me to the book in the first place. A picture of a fly holding a football, and wearing a football jersey. The background of the cover is metallic, it is really eye catching. The illustrations in the story work really well with the story line, they help illustrate the point of the story. There is a lot of intense emotion shown by the fly in the story, the facial expressions throughout the story are quiet humorous. The illustrations themselves are cartoon like but are of good quality and I think that kids would really like them. This is the story of a boy named Buzz and his pet fly, named Fly Guy. Buzz plays football and the team is down a player, he asks if Fly Guy can play, coach says no but he can come to the game. Buzz and... more Fly Guy go home and practice before the game, they plan a secret play and then create a touch down dance. The game comes down to a second of time remaining and then the new player, another boy gets hurt, Fly Guy is put into the game. The secret play involves Fly Guy flying up the nose of the opposing quarterback and Buzz running the ball into the end zone to score the winning touchdown, and then the two of them do their touchdown dance. The chapters in this story make it a really short chapter book, but it moves along really fast. I think that first grade boys would really enjoy reading this particular book in the series, there were many other books in the series. If they are anything like this book, I would say that first graders and perhaps even kindergartners later in the year could read independently. I wouldn't read this book aloud to a class but would suggest it to those who like sports or who would like to read something independently that isn't to challenging.
review 2: This is a great book about a fly that wants to play football. The coach tells him that flies dont play football but the fly is determined to prove him wrong. I would love to read this book to my class. I would focus on the fact that no matter what people said, the fly never gave up on what he wanted. He continued to try. I want my students to realize that many people are going to say many things, but they have to ignore it and continue trying. I know that studnets with exceptionalties will definitely hear negative things said, so I would like to boost their confidence in themselves. less
