review 1: This was a sweet, smart and well written little story.Cody and Shane were well developed characters. Cody is funny, snarky really, and he has a great friendship with his best friend Mira. Shane is sweet and a little shy but knows he wants Cody. Actually, they both feel that but don't rush in. Well, in short story land anyway. ;)The dialogue is well done and felt real, natural. It was easy to picture the settings and Cody's humorous reactions to them all.I love curling which is what made me buy this book. Sports aren't the focus, with brief descriptions mostly involving Cody's experiences, but they're described in just enough detail to enjoy. There is a connection and definite heat between Cody and Shane. When you're looking for a short read that won't at all disappoint, I r... moreecommend this one. :)
review 2: I think this is a typical case of “it’s not you, it’s me”. This was just a little too light-hearted for me. And yes, I’m aware that saying that makes me sound like a total grump (it’s also not too far from the truth).Teegan and I have some internet history together, I’ve “known” her since… 2009? I think. We have a few common interests, ehem. What I unfortunately don’t share is her affinity for sports. And that was made pretty clear with this book. While I don’t mind sports themes in my romance stories, I still prefer the romance to be the clearly overweighing topic. Here I think the balance between sports and romance is something like 70/30. Since I’m also a big fan of long outdrawn falling-for-each-other processes this was just a little too easily attained. I like my characters to have to work for it a bit. In a format this short I think it’s pretty okay to have a romance develop a bit quicker than normally, but I still crave a little bit of a struggle if I’m to fully enjoy it. I thought the characters were loveable though, and I always appreciate a protagonist that doesn’t quite have everything together. Despite my lack of love for the overall topic, I thought this was cute, and sweet and just a bit steamy. And for people who don’t mind sports, or people hurting themselves for comedic effects, this is a nice entertaining read. It has not even a teensy bit of angst in it, so angstwusses, this is perfect for you! less
