review 1: I'm giving this 4 stars for the YA Genre. While the writing could be polished a bit this story is a true original. A magical mystery in a historic setting, what else is there to love? The story follows a young girl and her con artist mother as they hold private seances in early 20th century NY. The author really captures the setting well and the character development is great for the main character. Some of the side characters fall short, but I'm willing to give it a pass. A very intriguing tale and I can't wait to find out what happens next to our fearless heroine.
review 2: I am quite open to books of this time period right now, so that was entertaining and enjoyable in itself. The book certainly held my interest, and would have been finished much sooner if I
... more wasn't in the middle of musical performances and falling asleep before getting one page read at night! I wouldn't say this is the best book out there, but it was just what I wanted right now, which gives it another star. Kept me wondering what was happening, and whom to trust. I made quite a few guesses and was right on almost all of them. Found quite a few content mistakes that an editor should have caught. (Oh wait--one just did!) But it didn't bother me. It held my interest and I really enjoyed the main female and male characters. Complications of mother-daughter relationships--yeah, I get that. Maybe not to their extent, but I still get it. less

It´s a great book, as long as you don´t mind the plot holes and the rushed end.
