review 1: Better art than the previous volume. Miyazawa's faces are way too manga-looking, but at least the layouts are better and the art is clearer. Moore's story doesn't have a lot going for it, but there are a couple of nice character bits -- I liked the part where the kids are "camping" out in the desert. And Chris Yost's story (with art by Sara Pichelli) of Molly meeting the X-Men was fun. James Asmus' "Truth or Dare" story was little more than filler. Although this volume was better than the last one, it still can't even find a candle to hold to Brian K. Vaughan's early work. I'm gonna go read the first Runaways trade to wash the bad taste out of my mouth.
review 2: If this weren't Moore's last go on Runaways, I'd quit right here. Luckily, the next (and last) volu
... moreme has a different writer. This volume has the same overall problems as the last. The characters, particularly Chase, have lost the character growth they'd gone through previously. Jarringly, Karolina has gotten over losing Xavin by the first pages of the very next issue. Harsh. For anyone who'd been attached to Karolina and Xavin as a couple, that has to feel like a slap in the face. And then there's the story itself... Sigh. If the local shock jockey can control people with his voice, why does he need zombies to do his bidding? Because zombies are cool, duh. It's confused and pointless, and I was glad when it was over. The one-shot story with Molly checking out the San Francisco X-Men base was a little better, as a bit of silliness, but ultimately pointless. Really, I was just glad to see the end of Moore's work on the title. less
