review 1: Op school kregen we een lijst van boeken om te lezen. Met dat lijstje ging ik naar de bibliotheek en zag dit boek staan. Ofschoon het volgens mij de dikste van de lijst was besloot ik dit toch te behandelen. Zo'n 25 jaar later heb ik daar geen moment spijt van gehad, en heb ik de avonturen van Dolf al 3x herlezen. Zelfs nu dit boek geheel aan mijn leeftijd voorbij is gegaan kan ik nog steeds genieten van zowel de geschiedkundige achtergrond als de avonturen die hij beleefd. Ik zal dit zeker aanraden aan mijn kinderen als ze er rijp voor zijn. Voor mij hoeven ze niet te wachten tot het op een publicatielijstje staat...
review 2: Crusade in Jeans is one of my all time favorite Children's/Middle Grade books. It's a wholly believable story that pulls the reader in ... moreat the beginning and doesn't let you go, even after you've finished the last page. Rudolf is a compelling character whose intelligent mind and caring heart have you cheering for him from the get go and the story of his jointing the Children's Crusade is a joy to read. I am frequently saddened by the reminder that this is Thea Beckman's only book that has been translated into English. I hope that changes soon. The story is far too good. I want to read more of her work.If you haven't read Crusade in Jeans, go buy it immediately. You won't regret it. less
