review 1: I enjoyed this booklet a lot. "Humility is not thinking more of yourself or less of yourself, but thinking about yourself less." Justification by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone can be the catalyst to this humility. That's gold! However, I did walk away wondering if Keller then thinks there is no place at all for Christians to feel shame when they have done wrong, or satisfaction when they have done well. Also, is it wrong to desire to serve others well, and be either pleased or displeased with my effort depending on the outcome?I like the thesis of 'thinking of myself less,' but this could be taken to mean that the problem is the mere existence of my sense of self. I'm certain Keller doesn't mean to suggest that.
review 2: Read it in one sittin
... moreg. First book by this author. Definitely will read more. Straight to the point sermon on avoiding performance based acceptance from yourself and others. I like how he presented this based on gospel principles. We are not on trial- there was One who took our place in our trial- and now the verdict has been declared! Our good deeds proceed out of this verdict, not in order to gain a good verdict! Read this to get free from consuming thoughts of " never good enough". less
