review 1: I read this book in about a week. Tim Keller has a phenomenal ability to articulate somewhat advanced ideologies and notions in a way that makes it easy to understand and (more importantly) relevant to literally everyone. He does it again with this book.As a single white male of the age of 28, I had read many books and articles from pastors, psychologists, and many other (unqualified) people by the time that I read this particular piece. I must say that this book encapsulates ideas that I had not found elsewhere. I highly recommend this book for everyone (with the full seriousness of the statement): married or unmarried.I think that this will be one that I will continually read as I get older since its wisdom is not merely limited to the married. Overall, a joy to ... moreread!
review 2: This book compares and contrasts the reasons and meaning of marriage in today's culture against yesterday's. The new reasons and outcomes of marriage are as different as our cultures are from a time when religion played a more significant part. This book is everything we've thought but wouldn't admit to. Its political incorrectness hits on undeniable cause and effect that ultimately lead to high divorce rates, superficial commitment, and lack of love and respect for marriage partners. Marriage began as a covenant under religious conviction while evolving into a selfish institution of "what's good for me". The arguments this book gives for a marriage of covenant are strong and convincing. It is a book best read by just about everyone whether happily married or considering separation. There are even viable points for singles who are considering marriage in the future whether they have met someone or not. I recommend this read for anyone who values marriage for a lifetime and those who hold some religious conviction. This is the book our church chose to enlighten our small group meetings for eight weeks. It has led many profound discussions between us. Really an excellent read. less
