review 1: I didn't find this book as good as the first one. Don't get me wrong, I still liked it, it just didn't have quite the same quality as the first one. To me, Nina tried too hard to deny that she was trying to be a slayer, and then when she actually tried to do any real vampire killing, she failed miserably at it and ended up getting her butt handed to her. I also hated the excuse that sex was the only thing that eased Amaury's pain, so that made it totally ok for him to be a man whore and use women for his temporary respite. I also didn't like how one minute he praised Nina for being strong willed, then sought to command her like a child. Then, he totally wusses out and doesn't really give her a choice about blood-bonding, just does it and damn the consequences. It was... more a quick read, and mostly enjoyable, but not as touching as the first book in the series.
review 2: I liked this book, but not as well as he first Scanguard book with Samson and Delilah. Amaury is a vampire who feels everyone's emotions, good or bad. Everyone's. 24/7. Unless he has sex. Then he has a few moments of blissful peace. That is, until he meets Nina, who somehow eases the pain from the constant barrage of emotional overload. I'm not sure that I liked Nina. She wasn't a character that I felt any connection with. Who doesn't love a tortured hero though? If you like paranormal romance with action and danger around the corner, I'd recommend this book and each of the other Scanguard books. less
