review 1: 3.5 stars.Amaury LeSang has been a vampire since the 17th Century when he was cursed to feel the emotions of everyone around him. Sex is the only way to get momentary respite, so of course Amaury has sex and lot of it.One day Amaury was tracked by a woman, Nina the wannabe slayer, and Amaury realizes he can't feel her emotions. How nice to be around someone and not be assaulted by their inner turmoil. Nina is determined to kill all vampires as she blames them for the murder of her brother. Amaury is determined to break his curse, the only problem is that they can't keep their hands off each other.*Sighing*I kept waiting for the revelation that Nina was a fairy or vampire descendant. I don't see how a mere human could get the drop on century old vampires with no drop of su... morepernatural blood. Why, she tailed Amaury. Someone with heightened powers. I just find the Scanguard vampires weak as predators, so much so that I am tempted to skip to Zane's book. He seems to know he is at the top of the food chain.
review 2: This was an audiobook.... and I give 1 star for the narration and 2 stars for the book. Now, if I would have read this, I may have enjoyed the story more and rated it higher.... But the narrator literally killed the book for me! He had a very deep voice and the only voice he managed to do right was Amaury's. Everyone else's voice was just butchered. I would have preferred that he just read the story instead of trying to give everyone different voices. It just wasn't enjoyable at all. less
