Cold Fury
review 1: Cold Fury basically just gave me what I love about these action and thrilling stories. It starts off a little slow, telling us about Sara's past and building up to her "cold fury" and all the complexity of the relationships in her family. Then it thrust you head on with Sara into a dark on the run story that keeps you reading with suspense. All the characters had something that makes you remember them, and I'll be honest, Poor Kevin freaked me out a bit at the scene at Willy's place. That laugh and how he say things creeped me out. In a good way, if that's possible. The idea and works of the Chicago Outfit and Capone Doors is well explained, along with the history of the Rispoli family. I was never bored reading this, and like it said in the preview thingie, it's written li... moreke an action movie. The details of what's happening, such as when Sara saw her destroyed home for the first time, grabbed my attention. And there are, can't be a better name for these but, ninja rats, hidden doors, many safe houses, a Ferrari underground, and of course, the coveted notebook that gives "unlimited power". How? I might've missed it but I don't think it explained why the notebook is that important, other than the fact that it basically has every mob secret in its pages.I really liked Sara's tough personality. Determination, kickass, a freaking boxer since like four!!, smart, brave, etc. It was a nice balance between her hardcoreness and her softer side for Max and Doug. I also liked how any romance stuff didn't really take center stage like many of the books I've read. The cold fury add a touch of maybe, paranormal or sci fi, and I think it could've been explained a bit more. So that it doesn't seem to be just a sudden flare of anger and toughness. Sara's character is perfect for a mob related story.Like it said in the description, I suppose it does feel like a Jason Bourne movie. I've only seen the newest one which sucked, but I think Cold Fury was darker. All in all, I would totally go for the sequel and the third book.
review 2: Teenage girl takes possession of a sort of codex for the Chicago mafia. Chaos and violence ensues. Implausible, yes. However, it's refreshing to read a YA book that is not about paranormal creatures or dystopian fantasy. Sara Jane is a likable character, and readers become invested in following her quest to save her family while evading the people who will kill to get what she has. Worth a read! less
