review 1: i haven't read a straight-ahead mass market thriller like this in a long time. to be honest, i wasn't sure what to make of it (or how to rate it). while it pushes around it's fair share of hokey thriller stereotypes, i found it oddly seductive & compelling. and a quick read. but i'm also hopped up on cold medicine so maybe i'm just an easy mark. i have 2 other books by him lying around- maybe once i look at those i'll have a bit more to say or a clearer take on his writing style.
review 2: Finn is an former New York City cop now teaching English Literature at an exclusive all-girls prep school. He is also blind from injuries received when he was still on the force. Out for a walk during a deepening snowstorm, Finn comes across an injured girl from the loca
... morel town whose enigmatic warning sets off a wave of mysterious violence, that threatens to engulf Finn in the life he has tried to leave behind. Piccirilli is one of the best thriller writers currently practicing and this is a deftly plotted and thoughtful story. Told from the perspective of a blind man, readers experience the world in a whole new way. Finn's eyes may no longer work, so he investigates through sound, smell, character study and the sixth sense he developed as a cop. Piccirilli writes well and this is a potent and compelling story less

I had a difficult time finishing this one. It wasn't one of those books you just can't put down.

It's Piccirilli in usual form, somewhere between The Midnight Road and November Mourns.
