review 1: A powerful collection of essays on the power of writing - in particular, Nadine Gordimer's writing about the novel as a means of witnessing the world is amazing and provides an interesting balance to Russell Bank's equally interesting meditation on protest literature but the creme de la creme here is Ed Park's marvellous rendering of the censoring of Robert Cormier's i am the Cheese - simply brilliant!
review 2: This is certainly a powerful little collection of essays focused on the importance of writing and how it combats censorship. Never did I feel that the essays were too self-congratulatory or arrogant in tone, but that each author tackled their topic of choice with tact and grace. I would certainly re-read this in the near future, if given the chance. less
