review 1: "Peeny Butter Fudge" by Toni Morrison is a great book. A mother leaves her three children with their grandma. The mother leaves a schedule that she wants them to follow. Instead the grandma wants be cool and do things her way. They completely blew off the schedule and had so much fun with their grandma. I thought the book was hilarious. It reminded me so much of my grandmas because they were the same way when I was younger. Kids who have a grandma like this would really connect with the book and find it funny as well. I think this book will be great for children in the grades 2nd-4th. I love how the author provided the recipe of the peeny butter fudge cookies in the back of the book. I thought that would be a great way for children to bond with their grandparents by readin... moreg this book and making the cookies. The illustrator did a great job. They illustrations were very colorful. I also loved how much great detail they had. They were all doubled paged on all pages. It felt like I was really watching a cartoon on TV. The expressions on their faces tell the story. Especially when the mom walks in after they have made a mess with their grandma, that illustration was priceless because of the surprised look she had on her face.
review 2: My kids laughed their heads off at this true-to-life rhyming tale of a Grandma who blatantly ignores mom's schedule and does whatever she wants while babysitting. Luckily, my kids have two loving, helpful Grandmas who love when I am not there so they can do things "the fun way."The illustrations are hysterical and despite a language barrier with two of my kids, it was VERY obvious what was happening and the children related, and found it delightful. We are going to try the recipe included for Peeny Butter Fudge. A fun, unexpected gem from one of my favorite authors, Toni Morrison. less
