review 1: Corderoy, T. (2013). I Want My Mommy! (p. 32). Tiger Tales. This book is great for young kids that cry when Mommy or Daddy leave. I Want My Mommy is about Arthur who misses his mommy terribly. Dragon suits don't do justice when trying to make him happy but while at Grandma's house, she knows just what to do! Dressing up while reading or after or draw things that make you happy when you miss your parents.
review 2: Arthur the mouse is sent to spend the day with Grandma, away from Mommy for the first time. Any parent of a toddler knows this can be a big deal. Existential crisis big deal. Even for kids who know full well the fun & prerequisite spoiling that is a norm at most Grandma's houses, separation anxiety can be a big deal. Here is a great read aloud to hel
... morep your little one process this situation. Arthur pulls it together enough by going to his comfort zone-wearing his favorite dragon costume & taking along his favorite toy dragon, Huffity. (picturing that favorite lovie that my son takes to daycare each day!)After hugs, kisses and a quick "rubby noseies" (adorably illustrated & heart breaking page!) Mommy is on her way, leaving Arthur with Grandma. What to do? What to do?Grandma tries keeps Arthur busy, with painting, playing drums, then lunch time, and finally pretend play in the back garden-with Arthur as the dragon protecting his treasure against the Grandma-Knight.First published in the UK, this US import will charm children & parent alike. Could Alison Edgson's illustrations be ANY CUTER? Seriously, this cover art should be breaking the internet it's so darn adorable. Tracey Corderoy's story is perfect for preschool read-aloud. A great tale to reassure little ones that even after a day or afternoon or morning away, Mommy & Daddy will come back and all will be well. less
