review 1: Completely picked this up on spec from a second hand book shop. It offered a tasty combination of history, art, ancient mysteries and Florence, an irresistible mix and a quick dip in seemed to indicate it was readable at least. The writing did not disappoint. This was my first book from Traci Slatton but will not be my last. Initially I could not read it fast enough but did find the middle sections more tedious and a bit repetitive. The strengths for me were in the friendships of Luca particularly with Leonardo Da Vinci and
review 2: I agree that this book was a gigantic "U". The beginning and end was interesting but the middle was really boring and long and unneeded. And the alchemy and God relationship portion in the middle was really just a huge longer vers... moreion of the book The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. Despite feeling a great potential from this book in the beginning, in the end it is not all that original and I was ultimately disappointed. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to read another version of the The Alchemist. less
