review 1: The main character, Luca, is separated from his parents as an infant in late medieval Florence, then kidnapped off the street and enslaved in a brothel. That starts a feud between him and the brothel-keeper - and the brothel-keeper's descendants, because for mysterious reasons Luca barely ages at all. He lives through the Renaissance running into famous artists and politicians, meanwhile anticipating his future romance with a woman whose future existence is revealed to him in a trance. Between them, the enmity and the romance almost eclipse what I was interested in, the mystery of Luca's immortality, and when the answer finally came I was dissatisfied both with its brevity and its savor of modern pseudoscience.
review 2: A truly amazing fantasy idea of longevit
... morey, mixed in with accurate historical facts. Any lover of history and of fantasy will greatly enjoy this book. Long though it is, not once did I ever get bored while reading it. There was always something new and wondrous happening, though it wasn't all hyped up and cheesy. You will fall deeply in love with Luca Bastardo, a very compelling MC, and the people during his unusually long life. Though it starts out dark and gruesome it turns into an amazing story. A must read for anyone. Definitely one of my favorite books I have read in a long time. less

Not a bad book...but I kept losing interest so it took much longer to read than it should have.
