review 1: This is about as boy book as we can get. It's like a country song :) Football, rodeos, Cowboys and monster trucks, girls and the National Guard. It pulled me in and I was anxious to read the entire book. There is clearly a sequel forthcoming, so I feel this just barely stands on its own.The civics portions are boring, and I found myself skimming over those a bit. I didn't mind some of the news casts or their Twitter/FB equivalent posts, but I think those might lose some kids too. Overall, a solid effort minus some super cheesy/cliche moments.
review 2: Throughout the novel, Divided we fall, by Trent Reedy, the protagonist Daniel Wright is a member of the Ohio National Guard, who is put on duty to put down a dangerous riot that gets ugly. After shots are fired f
... morerom the Guards Men, they are told to try and live their lives normally. But when the government gets the names of the shooters involved, they want everyone there to pay. This causes an all out stale-mate between Ohio and the president, where nobody will give up. Finally, after the president is assassinated, the vice president takes over and shut of all of Ohio’s power and sends in troops to contain Ohio.Daniel Wright, being the main character he is, was my favorite character throughout the book. He shows many great attributes of a great character like being brave, loving his family and friends, and knowing how to deal with his problems under pressure. I definitely think that this was planned by the author, so that the reader can connect to the main character and fall in love with the book. Daniel Wright acts brave through thick and thin, after being accused of murder by the president, and having his mother die trying to save her. He is defiantly a brave, heartfelt character that I loved and thought was my favorite. I really enjoyed this book, and would recommend it to someone else. It is full of action, adventure, football, and government themes, so if that’s what you like, that pick up this book. I really think that even If those themes are not your favorite, this book would still be something for you. It’s a fictional book set in the future which shows us what could happen to the US, with adventure, love, fun, and a whole lot of football. This book was definitely one of my favorite books and I think if you are looking for a book to read, you should pick up Divided We Fall. less
