review 1: I read the finnish edition "Pelon Rajalla" of this novel and I'm afraid the translation was not very good. In fact, it was horrible. Now, I admit I haven't read the original, so I can't really compare and be 100%, but I trust my instincts on this. I felt right from the beginning that it was a poorly translated. And couple of typos here and there didn't actually help. Or maybe Waite's style just doesn't work in finnish so well. Anyway, I have to write a review of the novel to certain publication and it really bugs me, since I liked the story, characters, pace, movie-like structure etc. I have to check out the original edition. Too bad if the Finnish publisher made a sloppy job on this.
review 2: I can see the similarities to No Country for Old Men noted by almos
... moret every reviewer but I think they're overstated. While Mr. Waite is quite a promising first novelist he isn't in McCarthy's league. But then how many writers are? There are parallels in character and plot but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. And if Stephen King recommends it I'm confident that Waite has done enough to earn my respect. I'll look forward to his next effort. He's an author to watch. less

A good read but a bit redundant, or at least too close to mo country for old men for comfort

Read easily. Somewhat predictable ending; however, quite entertaining.
