review 1: I enjoyed this book much more than I thought I would. I decided to pick it up due to the popularity this series has amongst the kids at my library. And to my surprise, I found it quite funny, delightful & well written. It is a fun and sarcastic romp in a world run by reptiles and amphibians, as seen through the antics of Danny the Dragon and his nerdy but loyal iguana best friend, Wendell. The artwork adds well to the storytelling, and is quite expressive for simple black, white and green drawings. A pretty good series in the ever popular comic book-novel hybrids.
review 2: Danny Dragonbreath is a bit of a hapless hero (a dragon who hasn't quite got the hang of fire-breathing), but with help from his best friend Wendell, he'll make it through troubles both
... more magical and mundane. When Wendell is bitten by a were-wiener in his school lunch, Danny has to enlist the aid of sentient potato salad to save his friend from a permanent affliction of lycanthropy.Ursula Vernon is an engaging writer, and also did the illustrations for this hilarious book (and the rest of the series). This is a book well worth picking up, and probably handing along to any young (or young at heart) readers you know. This series is high enough on my 'love-it' list that I have been pre-ordering them as they come out, something I do for no other author or series. less
