review 1: Once again...Kudos and Huzzahs for Leominster Public Library along with very loud SHOUT OUT! for being able to get this book. I/We read Val McDermid's book Retribution....and we saw that the end there was a teaser regarding another she was in process of writing.....If Retribution was a mind boggling epic drama ...Vanishing Point is twisting turning who d'un nit that doesn't let up.The characters are quite believable.......Val so immerses you into their lifestyles and thinking that you begin repelling ? rebelling ? against the vapid inanities of their daily lives..It' s a cross between the Big Brother program on TV and Survivor and the cast of characters percolate around them along with those that report on them...Hollywoodies....the shallow and inane way of life...lite... morerally drugs, sex, rock n roll .....the families of these people ...along with the police who have to investigate a kidnapping....it's a page-turner simply because the main character has to explain so many things....I loved it because as a nurse there was a lot of clinical events that the writer presents in a very none dramatic none plus way that sticks to you....It is such a dizzying read that there are times when you find yourself laughing out loud....It does make people turn around and look at you while reading in a eatery....Please find this book...enjoy it....look up her other books I know I will.Ronnie Houle.
review 2: I have to applaud the topical theme. Interesting to delve into the depths of a big brother type housemate. One has to wonder what would make a person want to be a reality tv star. The fact that our heroine Scarlet had a dark side which darkened by the day - and descended into fantasy did not detract from the appeal of the book. I was always keen to listen to the next unexpected twist and turn. I found it to be well written and well narrated. This was my first Val Mc Dermid. It won't be my last. Particularly because there are a string of questionable reviews for this book and accolades for others less

It belongs in a torturer's toolbox. Painfully tedious.
