review 1: Quite a fun read and decently written... the music stuff, for once in a very rare while, was mostly portrayed accurately and interestingly, albeit passionately (WITH ONE ENORMOUS EXCEPTION OMG). The whole concept... I mean... I like the idea of focusing on Nancy Storace, who must have had an interesting life and story, yet about whom there aren't a lot of certain facts; solid historical fiction decision. Some of the specifics just made me laugh, but it was an enjoyable laugh nonetheless. I'd recommend but only after a chat with the recommendee that established some caveats. :) The right reader would have as much fun reading it as I did.
review 2: I could not put this book down -- it was a beautiful, beautiful book. On the back jacket cover of the copy I checked
... more out from my library, there is a review by author Nancy Horan that praises Shotwell's "abundant, vivid detail." I cannot agree more with Horan's review: "You don't have to be an opera buff to fall deep into Vienna Nocturne." This magical, musical book held me captive by the passionate esteem that Wolfgang Mozart and Anna Storace had for one another. Well deserved praise, indeed. less
