review 1: 3.5 StarsWow…Let me say that if you are used to the sweet candy coated D/s book then this may be more than what you are used too. There were times in this book that I wanted to jump onto the page a smack Stefan upside the head. He was really pi$$ing me off! I mean I know the basis of a D/s relationship but some of the things he doing to her just through me for a loop.“Tell me how you feel.”“Embarrassed!” Renee snapped. “Humiliated!”……Stefan wrapped a hand around her throat and slapped her hard across her face. Renee’s head snapped aside and her eyes filled with tears.Personally a good D/s relationship turns me on, but I’m not into humiliation or face hitting so I was tempted to stop reading at this point. Lucky for me I didn’t. The more I got into t... morehe book the more the romance started to pick up. Once it did there were some smoking’ hot sex scenes. All in all I very glad I stuck with the book. Once I got past the roughness he treated her with at the beginning and into the part where he starts to care for her I enjoyed the love story that started to build. I’m looking forward to reading HMK #2.**a free copy of this book was provided for an honest review**for more reviews see welovekink (dot) com
review 2: Series received from authorFirstly, this is how I rated them.#1 - 4 stars#2 - 4 stars#3 - 4 stars#4 - 5 stars#5 - 4 stars.Ms. Sparx did a wonderful job with this story. I enjoyed all five books, and I must say I really liked all the characters, bar one. Larry. A*hole of note. The reason the fourth book got 5 stars is because it was my favourite, even though it was sad - sobbing sad. Although this story, (because it is one story) spanned five books, and because I read them one after the other (they are very short), in my mind I see them as one book. Granted, sometimes it's easier to pick up a short story and read it in no time due to us all having busy lives where full length novels can be quite daunting, but in my personal opinion only, I would have liked it if the HMK series was a single novel.Due to Nevena doing the HMK reviews, I will just touch base with what I thought. Stefan became a dom of his own choosing after losing his wife. Enter, Renee, who wants to hire Stefan to teach her how to be a submissive. At first, Stefan isn't keen as he believes she's doing it for the wrong reasons; a boyfriend who doesn't give a hoot, and one who is married. You know those types. He eventually takes her on, and over a period of days proceeds to teach her what it's all about. Keep in mind that these aren't appointments where she takes notes people! This is a hands-on approach. They eventually fall for each other during 'training', but Stefan is hesitant and can't fathom why he would start to have feelings for Renee. It's not like it's the first time he's taught someone how to be submissive. He's known loss - a double loss, and isn't really prepared to go there again. There's much to overcome where Stefan is concerned, and throughout the story (all 5 books) you journey right along with them. As with life, there are ups and downs, which they eventually work through. This, however, is not done with a quick apology. They both have issues, and at one point I was surprised that Renee was the one wanting to get back in the submissive/master role play. At first I thought she was quite mad, but then you understand why.You will also meet Tink who moves in with Stefan and Renee - not in the first book, someone I absolutely loved and someone I thought quite wise for her age. But then, she hasn't been one of the lucky ones, and obviously wasn't given a choice in how fast she grew up! She's been bought for BDSM purposes, still, no reason for anyone to treat another abusively. From what I gather, as with anything in life, there are pros and cons to this life style. You'll also meet Master Peter, a friend of Stefan's, who becomes what Tink deserved right from the beginning. She's fiesty, and one of my favourite characters. This story takes you through a range of emotions: love, trust, friendship and a terrible loss. Even though this is an erotic series, it's written completely different from anything else I've read. Not that I read a lot of erotica, but most adult books, whether termed erotic or not, do encompass scenes where the male is always the more dominant if not forceful at times. However, I read the FSOG trilogy and I'll tell you this, the first book in this series focuses more on BDSM than any other. Actually, there isn't that much in the sequels if I'm to be honest. Not that this is a problem for me. Quite the contrary! This was a love story, through and through. Not only for one couple, but the beginning of another for Tink and Master Peter. Stefan has become one of my favourite male characters in this type of setting so far - he has a heart of gold. Christian Grey? Move over.I've now seen that Tink's part, although at a complete end in this particular series, is by no means at an actual end per say. Vivien Sparx has released a new series, one which I haven't as yet read called Jack Stone, and quite cleverly, the author only recently announced that this is where we will once again run across Tink by another name. That's all I will say for now. Exciting! One thing I appreciated in these stories, and make no mistake I can handle swearing and loads of weird stuff in any book (most weird stuff - like 90% of weird stuff!), was the fact that there was no swearing and scenes were beyond tastefully done. Refreshing. For someone who wanted to simply say that I'd read these books, I've gone and gotten carried away again. In closing, I enjoyed this story very much (I can't help but think of them as one book), and we got our HEA. Can't get more perfect than that. less
