review 1: Although the first in a series, the series actually started as a story in the 5 Golden Rings anthology. Oliver, Viscount Rathburn desperately needs his inheritance, which his grandmother won't release until she feels his life is in order. He has started a hospital as well as working on rebuilding his country house which had caught fire, killing his father. To receive his inheritance, he makes a deal with Emma Danvers and her parents. She keeps her reputation as pristine as possible as her family has had "incidents" in the past. She is one that Oliver's grandmother would approve for him to marry. As they go through with this farce, Oliver realizes his true feelings for her and although she returns them, she feels that he wouldn't be with her if it wasn't for him needi... moreng his inheritance. Somehow he needs to prove to her he is worth daring her heart with.
review 2: 1) I felt like I was reading an episode of “Three’s Company”…(the old schoolers will know what I mean) lol…but it was crazy with all these “misunderstandings” between Oliver and Emma…it’s like why don’t SOMBODY SAY SOMETHING!!! It was getting ridiculous with all their inner thoughts and no one speaking up.2) I didn’t like how Emma so willingly went along with Oliver’s (Lord Rathburn) plan without her having any say or making any demands of her own. A little too easy of a heroine IMO. Also, she didn't even get upset when she found out he been received his inheritance and basically DECEIVED her into marriage...3) I also find it hard to believe that Oliver would all of a sudden (from ONE kiss) be so smitten with Emma to the point he wants to marry her for real. They haven’t even spent any real bonding time together at this point…and mind you the kiss took place like in chapter 3 so again it was way too soon for him to profess any true emotions for her. Then all of a sudden (as if the author read my mind and/or figured it out herself) she decides to make it seem like Oliver has been in love with Emma all this time..but we don’t get the pleasure of seeing their friendship even blossom from the past…it’s like people just mention Oliver and Emma being in each other presence in the past and that’s is…it’s mentioned therefore it’s believable… NOT!4) Oliver had such a good chance at being an ultimate hero in this book…he was charismatic, witty, intelligent as well as compassionate regarding his hard work on the hospital. But the storyline let him down big time…a stronger storyline would have put Oliver in my top 5 of hero’s. The author really let this character down. As far as Emma, talk about docile/submissive..this chick just went along with any and everything. Not really a confident heroine in my book…or in this book for that matter…Oliver was way passed her level. 5) So to sum it up, this book was full of misunderstanding, lack of communication, lack of entertainment, lack of real juicy sexual tension, lack of sexual connection and for me…lack of interest. less

This book was lazy and nonsensical and repetitive and it's a miracle I finished it.

Loved the romance because initially they were friends who then fell in love.
