review 1: This book was great. It was sort of emotional and heart warming because this boy had a connection to a bear. One day when Charlie went outside to the creek near his house to go fishing, he saw a mountain lion. It was staring straight at him , but luckly everyday he has asked his dad what to do in certain situations like that and he tried to scare the mountain lion away and the bear was there to save him. This book showed a real connection towards the boy(Charlie)and the bear (Emory)which became great friends. It showed true friendship and it showed the animals feelings deep inside. The story showed the bear actually being able to write like a human and it showed all the characteristics of the bear. This book is great for people that like animals and emotional sto... moreries.
review 2: For those who read and loved "A Dog's Purpose" and/or "A Dog's Journey", Cameron is back with another sensational book. "Emory's Gift" is the story of a 13-year-old boy who recently lost his mother to cancer and whose father is so deeply mired in grief, he's stopped being a father. Charlie's life is a very unhappy one, especially since he's a small, rather scrawny kid who is the target of bullies in junior high. With no siblings or family members (other than his father), he's very lonely and is desperately in need of love. It comes in a very unusual form - an adult grizzly bear who seems to be more than he appears. Charlie's relationship with Emory the grizzly bear is a fascinating journey into moving beyond grief and sadness into a colorful, happier existence. The premise sounds hokey, but Cameron is such a talented writer and storyteller that you find yourself suspending disbelief and being completely taken in by the story. I hope Cameron's books keep coming, because I will be reading all of them. less

I found Charlie to be a really likable character. I was disappointed with Emory's message.
