review 1: I love Wally Lamb books. This one was beautifully written, but not the page-turner I had hoped for. The characters and topics were deep and tied together in an interesting fashion. It really illustrates how each life is connected to others, and how we are raised and what we experience can continue to affect future generations. But also that drastic change is possible -- it's never too late to overcome. review 2: Outstanding book. Difficult topics of effects of incest, abuse and secrets on families and into adulthood. The choices in the moment that can change everything. Also heard very interesting interview with author who spoke of volunteering at a women's prison doing a writer's group for 14 yeArs, and the source if the stories he feels compelled to tell are ... morefrom seeing the women as more than their crimes. less
