review 1: I really enjoy Wayne's books, and this was no exception. You really get a feel for Belfast, Northern Ireland, and there's a lot of story rooted in the troubles of the last few decades. Throwing zombies into it brings two different kinds of wars together. The idea of it being a 'flu' that explodes the virus is a good one, and the way it affects the living is gruesome and what us horror fans call for.Wayne can tell a story, and I admire his descriptive work, even if some of the characters are a touch stereotyped. The biggest issue I had with this story is that it needed more editing. The term 'as if' was used SIX times in one paragraph around the page 140 mark, and they crop up several times on every page. Once I'd seen it in that paragraph I was forever seeing them!So a sol... moreid 3 out of 4 for me, but would've been a good 4 if not for the 'as if's'!
review 2: It really wasn't a bad novel in writing. I felt there was still some room for a little more information on where this virus came from. The information in this book could have shown more hope too. Even in the final scene you think it's going to show reprieve and then one of the survivor group comes back to life as a zombie. It just left you with no hope. Also, the foul language was just extreme. Maybe it's that the author is Irish and this is normal, but it had a lot of offensive language. less
