review 1: I like the idea behind Love Minus Eighty, and I enjoyed the writing and characters of the book. But, I did find a few problems with the plot. There were a couple of coincidences that were a bit too contrived and that took me out of the story. I’d like to read the source short story, to see how it compares to the full length novel, but I don’t think turning the story into a full novel was the cause of any problems I found with the book, there was plenty to fill the story. Oh. Also. Sure. It’s an amazingly misogynist plutocracy, and that sucks. But, hey the vision that McIntosh gives about future technology is pretty cool.
review 2: awesome cover! exciting, intriguing story about what happens to someone if they've been cryogenically frozen. I did have a cou... moreple of issues with it - like if its so expensive to rethaw someone, wouldn't it cost way more to have them frozen? And how can these 'bridesicles' - i.e. frozen beautiful women - even wake up enough to talk? To me, the technology was the great plot hole that was never addressed. That being said, i liked the characters and reading their interweaving stories. less
