review 1: Bottom line: A well written good old fashion sci-fi thriller. This story spans 20 plus years. Aliens invade earth, we fight back, almost lose, pull away to victory by creating the Defenders, we win. Sounds good? That is just the beginning. Once the war was over, what were the Defenders to do? You would have thought they would have created the Defenders with a built-in life span (as in Star Wars). I liked this story and will be looking for more by Will.
review 2: I picked this book up at the Nebula Awards weekend on the strength of an publishing blurb and the inside cover description. Good, strong premise. ... morever dragged me out of a fast-paced book with well-drawn, believable characters. There were a few minor glitches, the sort of things that a more mature writer (or editor) might have caught, but nothing serious. Highly recommended. less

Amazing book. Loved the powerful message this book puts across. Great characters with lots of depth.

Boring, does not describe the horrors of this book. For legged sentimental lab rats do that for you.
