The Last Ship is a novel, written by William Brinkley in 1988. This is the post-apocalyptic fiction about the guided-weapon destroyer of the United States Navy, the war between the USA and the Soviet Union.

The main character is Thomas. He is a commander, who describes the story of his ship - the USS Nathan James (DDG-80). The nuclear war, which immersed the whole world, remained the only ship Nathan James.

This is a very powerful book, a pure fiction with wonderful story, beautiful and strong characters and a high energy. The novel possesses many themes, like leadership, nuclear war, relationships, politics, emotions, humans, etc.

This book inspired the producers to create a mini serial based on this story. The TNT channel decided to release this serial in 2014.
