review 1: I'll be honest. I'm really reading this as an emotional release from other series. I am focused on Ciel as a character and have very little interest in any of the other characters. I just need something where I'm not attached to the characters. That is what this series is doing for me.Though I do find the story a little intriguing. And it really does have those moments where I can't help but laugh even when I probably shouldn't be laughing...
review 2: Black Butler Volume 2 continues the story of Ciel Phantomhive and his butler Sebastian Michaelis. In this volume Ciel receives an order from the Queen herself to stop the killing of prostitutes by Jack the Ripper, and as the Queen's Guard Dog it is his duty to obey. In the investigations Ciel must go underco

However, not all is as it seems when it comes to the identity of Jack the Ripper and Ciel must make a choice in how he will play the game. It has been on the New York Times Manga Best Seller list, as well as, having a Japanese Comic Ranking.I was again stunned as to how closely the anime follows the manga in the story line and even the illustrations. I have found that it is harder to overlook the fact that Sebastian is a demon in the manga, as little bits of dialogue show just how ruthless and cunning he is. Volume 2 does end on a cliffhanger so to anyone who has not seen the anime it would be wise to have several volumes on hand just in case. I have found that while killing is very commonplace is the manga it doesn't appear to be incredibly gory yet. I have quite enjoyed the fact that they draw upon historical events, and placing their own spin on things which makes it so believable. I look forward to continue on in the journey of Ciel and Sebastian as the ending for the manga is quite different from the anime, so I don't actually know what happens.Toboso, Y., & Kimura, T.
