review 1: This second volume brings much needed improvements in plot, character development, and artistic ability. The attention to detail regarding the clothing and living conditions is fabulous. I would have preferred the author use an original premise in her plot because most angles on Jack the Ripper are played out, but it's refreshing to envision a world in which one of the most famous female monarchs really did care about the untimely death of prostitutes.The creator's characters are starting to develop into individuals rather than caricatures which flounce through the frames. Plot arcs are coherent and tight, merging seamlessly into one another and tidying up some of the loose ends from the prior volume. I look forward to reading another volume in hope of continued improv... moreement. I am not yet attached to any of these characters....but I could be.
review 2: There was so many little silly moments in this volume, I couldn't help but love it. Ciel, and his grumpy face, in a dress- perfect. Sebastian, our perfectly put together butler, with a love of cats- perfect. Parts of this really made me giggle and fall more in love with the story. Then we get a murder mystery as a bonus, with Jack the Ripper as our villain- perfect.I love getting snippets of the history between Ciel and Sebastian. I cannot wait to get the full story and find out what is going to happen with them. It has it's light, funny moments, but I see it potentially getting very dark later on. If this is how it continues, we will have some complex characters, with multiple layers to their personalities to enjoy. Gotta love some good character building! less
