review 2: In some ways it is a pointless book without much plot. Thus the many reviews giving it a 1 or a 2. In other ways it is Waiting for Godot as told by a stuffed howler monkey and a stuffed donkey. It is a metaphor for the Holocaust, it is a story of an author who becomes enm
... moreeshed with an antisocial taxidermist. It is a story of a faithful dog who suddenly becomes rabid. It is a very strange book, more disjointed than The Life of Pi. Someone wondered why it only had a rating of 3/5 when it was such a great book. It is because the reviews are either extremely low ratings or extremely high. This is not a book which will appeal to someone who reads suspense and mystery or SF only. Expect to be moved. less

I'm a little at a loss as to how to rate this book. It is an extremely odd novel which is at times a bit of a stream of consciousness from the author, but it does seem to find a way to seep into your skin and by the end you find the characters are fairly lodged in there, along with questions of "why".It is a short novel and I would recommend the audio version as the narrator is very good and I'm not sure I would've had the motivation to finish this if I had started with another medium. This novel is best summed up as "things that make you go..hmmm....."

THIS IS ONE OF THE WEIRDEST BOOK I'VE EVER READ.Almost everything from this book can be life quotes.I haven't read Life Of Pi yet but I can surely tell that this author is deep in thoughts and there is always twists in his writings.I kinda don't like both the characters. But I completely like the idea of this book and there are definitely my favorite parts of Beatrice and Virgil's conversation especially the Pear scene!!

I'm not sure I can rate this book- it was disturbing but thought provoking.
