A autora, sem cair no modismo, consegue , de fato, compreender seus próprios personagens.
review 2: "Some patience in required of the reader" wrote Stephanie Merritt in her February 2009 review in The Observer and that probably explains why I decided to get so far and stop. Not because I was not getting anything from this book but simply because I did not have the patience to hold all the small pieces presented in such a way as to make me want to discover the whole, which I guessed would be bleak. Although set in 1979, in this 25th anniversary of the events of Tiannamen Square ten years later, it is hard to see what has really changed in the China of 2014, and this book holds nothing back in exploring the full poverty (physical, economic, emotional, spiritual) and fear under which the people of China live. As an excellently crafted challenging read this is super; perhaps it exposes as much the freedom of the western reader who can set it aside too easily with a self-despising disappointment that there's seemingly nothing significant I can do about such inequalities. less
