review 1: On the good side, parts of this story were funny (when I wasn't thinking about them too hard). Who doesn't work with teenagers may have forgotten how vicious they can be. Gossip and bullying can reach impressive levels. The strangest thing is that a lot of them become decent adults. Some are be ashamed, some aren't, but most of them never reach that level of viciousness again. That's the reason I believed Ric even if I thought that Alex's trauma disappeared too quickly. On the other/bad side: what a hell is that caricature of a woman (the receptionist) supposed to represent? Women at 'that time of the month' equals 'horns growing out on our heads' is definitely not funny. While some things were really funny, that certainly was not.
review 2: A very fun, funny, w
... morearm, compassionate short story. The POV is Alex's and 95% of the story occurs in a single day of what started out as one of those poopy covered days that we all have from time to time. Ric (or Dick as we enjoyed calling him in the beginning) evolved into a compassionate character as we and Alex got to know him a little better. This story stands alone just fine, but I enjoyed these characters, even Janet, so much that I checked to see if this was one book in a series. It isn't at this time, BUT as I've read from friends, we should get a follow up book sometime in the future. I'm looking forward to it. less
