*rises from the dead, arms outstretched*
Why yes, I have come back. Now that school is done, I will have time to keep this updated. I’m not going to make a big fanfare just in case I fade into obscurity again.
On my computer, I have these little sticky notes where I keep track of the new books being released each month that I’m looking forward to. Most of these are Young Adult because that’s where exciting things are happening. Also, some of these are so that I can keep track of when the paperback is being released because hardcovers are expensive and sometimes not as much fun to read.

Paperback – A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas – YA Fantasy
This is the second in the Court of Thorns and Roses trilogy. All I know is that the first book was a Beauty and the Beast retelling and this second one is more like a retelling of the Persephone myth.
I have not read the first book in the series, but I bought it in paperback, so now I have to complete the collection in paperback. There’s a lot of hype surrounding these books, so I plan to read the first two soon. But then I have an agonizing wait until the third comes out in paperback. It’s tough when you could finish the series, but your books wouldn’t match.

Hardcover – Ramona Blue by Julie Murphy – YA Contemporary
Ramona Blue is tall and has distinctive blue hair. She identifies as a lesbian, but then a boy childhood friend moves back to Eulogy, Mississippi and complicates how Ramona feels. She also is in her senior year of high school and facing a future of taking care of her family rather than going to college.
I loved Julie Murphy’s previous book Dumplin’ so when I found out she had a new book I knew I was going to snatch it up. Because it’s the middle of the month I’ve already started reading this and Julie Murphy just has a way with creating such relatable and complicated characters. Mostly I was looking forward to this book because I’m all about LGBTQ stories.

Hardcover – Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh – YA Fantasy
All I know is that this is a Mulan retelling, and that’s all I need to know. The cover is beautiful as well. I’m a very easy sell. I read her Wrath and the Dawn Duology and thought it was alright. I’m interested to see how Renee Ahdieh progresses. Also, I have her other two books in hardcover, so I might as well keep them matching.
Paperback – This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab – YA Fantasy
Kate Harker is a girl who wants to be a monster, and August Flynn is a monster who wants to be human. This story takes place in a world where every evil deed spawns a monster and the city where they both live is at war. Music plays a large role.
I’ve heard good things about this book and I love Victoria Schwab’s writing. This book also features two characters of opposites genders who DON’T fall in love!
Hardcover – The Love Interest by Cale Dietrich – YA Contemporary (Action/Adventure)
Caden and Dylan have been trained as ‘love interests:’ spies who get information through seduction. Dylan is the stereotypical bad boy and Caden is the boy next door type. When they’re both set to seduce the same woman their paths cross and they have to decide whether to stay with the agency or strike out on their own.
I just discovered this book about a week ago and it sounds amazing. I believe the two boys fall in love instead of seducing their target. I’m all about subverting expectations and major tropes with LGBTQ elements. This jumped to the top of my list as soon as I heard about it!

Hardcover – Dark Breaks the Dawn by Sara B. Larson – YA Fantasy
This is a retelling of Swan Lake with dark magic, two kingdoms, and a high fantasy setting. That’s really all I know. The Goodreads reviews were not all that kind, but it sounds interesting enough that I’m going to give it a chance.
Paperback – Prince Lestat and the City of Atlantis by Anne Rice – Urban Fantasy
Notice how the further we get the less I know about books? That’s because a lot of these are continuations of a series or by an author I particularly enjoy. I’m currently rereading parts of the Vampire Chronicles and that is why this book is on the list. I still need to read her other new vampire book Prince Lestat, but I have it in paperback, so I waited for this one as well.
Hardcover – No Good Deed by Goldy Moldavsky – YA Contemporary
Gregor Maravilla gets invited to a super special activists only summer camp where people can champion their cause. An award is announced for the person who furthers their cause the most and everyone becomes rather cutthroat. Ashley Woodstone is a famous actress participating in the camp and she seems to be more interested in sabotaging Gregor than furthering her campaign.
When I added this to my list I had no idea what it was about. The description only makes me want it more. I bought Kill the Boy Band by Goldy Moldavsky last year and read it in less than a week. It was funny, dark, cool, and powerful. Her exploration of bandom was super interesting and she gained a fan for life.
These are the books I’m looking forward to in May! Comment below if there are other books you’re aching to read this month! I’m always looking for more recommendations.
