review 1: A nice twist on a classic favorite. I like the game of 'what if...' and Mr. Darcy's Obsession delivers nicely. This answers the question, "What if Mr. Darcy had not gathered the nerve to profess his love to Elizabeth that day at Rosings? How would the lives of everyone been affected had that one pivotal moment in Pride and Prejudice never occurred?" Abigail Reynolds answers these questions beautifully as we watch the characters take different paths only to find themselves, for the most part, moving back into the same lines and towards the same ends that Jane Austen created for them.
review 2: The title of the book led me to believe that this would be another smutty romance novel, but I brought it home anyway. I was pleasantly surprised to find no such smut. T
... morehis book changes up Pride and Prejudice by having Elizabeth rush home from Rosings to help take care of her ailing father, before Mr. Darcy proposes. Mr. Bennett's death plunges the Bennett family into dire financial circumstances, and Mr. Darcy must overcome extreme unsuitability in order to marry Elizabeth. I especially liked the first third of the book. I thought it explained Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy's feelings delightfully. It really could have finished there. Instead, it was padded with unneeded drama and soap-operaesqe happenings leading up to a completely predictable ending. Still, I thought it was an interesting idea on the theme, and I really appreciated the trueness to the time period and the general absence of smut. less
