Flavia de Luce
review 1: A great fun read with the fascinating Flavia. Her character is so well-developed and original. I love the dynamic with her two sisters. The humour in the book is low-key and dry (in a less is more kind of way), that is perfectly in keeping with the story. The combination of Flavia's innocence and intellectual brilliance means you never know quite what she will do; I love that element of surprise in a book.
review 2: I don't think I've ever liked a character more than I liked Flavia de Luce. Flavia, or "Flave," as she sometimes refers to herself, is the spitting image of Sherlock Holmes, except of course that she's 11 and the most precocious child in existence. I loved everything about this book. From the descriptions of the decaying castle Flavia calls home to
... morethe people in the town of Bishop's Lacey to how she solves the murder of the strange Norwegian man found dead in their garden, there was absolutely nothing I would change. Just a lovely book. I can't wait to read the rest of the books in the series. less
