review 1: Hard... Very very hard to review this one. At least for me it is!I can go on and on about the book, but all have already been said, so I'll just point out one thing that made me take the one star off, and it's something that made the experience of reading it, less than it should be, because whatever we say or feel, it is an amazing story! The thing is, that I feel, that there MUST be a point to all of Vadim's and Dan's (but mostly Dan's), fucking (pardon my French). It's an on going thing, that brings lots of problems and doubts to the relationship, and I keep waiting for it to be resolve (stop, to be frank!), and it doesn't! I ask myself over and over again: WHY???I just can't shake the feeling that I'm missing something profound in that aspect. So, for doubting my own unde... morerstanding and intelligence, I'm taking a star off. But, as I said, a bigger than life story, great writing and understanding the material and subject, and all in all one big amazing experience!
review 2: Not quite a 5 anymore, but of course still gopd and enjoyable. As I've written in Soldiers' review, I consider Soldiers as a standalone Epic Love Story of Vadim and Dan. Special Forces became a quite different story once they (or Dan, really) decided that it's an open relationship. This book, Mercenaries II, is more like the story of some... guys, with some hookups and sexytimes.I like the stuff with Hooch; Vadim's connection, Dan's jealousy, his drawl and his cool mannerism... I was like, suck it, Dan! Even though Mad Dog was no more, and that's a good thing. Dan was much better in this part of the book. I don't know wtf is up with Jean, though. In love with Dan, probably.Dima and Markus were SO CUTE. It's really refreshing to see a relationship like this (in this book). And Markus was smitten from the start, awww. And Dima was willing to try for the first time in his life, awww. And oblivious at the beach, awww. Monogamy, awww.The story got interesting once again at the end, after the beach. It pulled my heartstrings, and I kind of missed that. (Soldiers and the half part of Mercenaries I did that a lot.) less
