review 1: This week I read “The Lion of Kent” by Aleksandr Voinov and Kate Cotoner and am I’m glad I did. I ended up reading the book twice in three days! Even after reading it two times though, I still didn’t get that the title referred to William Raven not Robert de Cantilou as the lion of Kent. It was only the next day, while thinking about the book, that it dawned on me that Robert referred to William as a lion in many of their conversations....duh!! And I like to think I’m fairly intelligent. What an amazing story! I couldn’t get enough of William Raven and Sir Robert de Cantilou. Their interactions were right on and I loved how the story developed their relationship. My only complaint was the story was too short. Hopefully, Voinov and Cotoner will write the rest of... more William and Robert’s story. I can’t wait to read it. I also think they should write a prequel to this story, centered on Sir Robert’s life and especially his visit to the Holy Land and Constantinople.
review 2: Reading historical books is always a challenge and finding one that keeps me interested is not easy. However, The Lion of Kent was anything but boring. The main character is William, a young man wanting and trying to become a knight of Lord Robert de Cantilou. The story follows him as he grows, fights, becomes a lover and a knight. The characters of William Raven and Sir Robert and their developing relationship are interesting elaborated and enjoyable to read. The history feels very real. Hot tempered William is endearing and although Sir Robert remains a bit of a mystery the two men are absolutely great together. My only complaint is that I would like to see more of William in a future story. A girl can dream...:) less
