review 1: This "little" Novella is set after the Haunting Violet book. Alyxandra definitely knows her era including titles, clothes and scenery. I am not a big fan of a lot of details in a story, but the way Alyxandra writes it, it can truly mesmerize you. I enjoyed where this Novella picked up from the last book. What I don't like is how short it was. Even for a Novella. I also think that this story could continue on for some time. It just seemed to be cut right off. THE END. Type of scenario. I just hope she writes a sequel to Haunting Violet and include parts from Languish. But regardless of what she decides to do, I recommend this little read. So get this Novella, but not before you read Haunting Violet! Yes, you could get away with just reading Languish, but you wou... moreld not understand a lot of parts and honestly, you would be missing out on a large part of the story all together.
review 2: I'm going to assume that this is Harvey's on spec sequel to Haunting Violet and it means that this series is gone for good. I'm sad to hear it since it was one of my first YA's that I truly loved. How does Languish compare? It's a novella leangth for a full novel worth of story so the plot felt a little rush. Add that to the inability for the author to grow the characters due to lack of space and it would be easy to feel disappointing. Luckily for me other reviewers had girded my loins and I was able to go into Languish with novella sized expectations. It turned out to be a fun look back into one of the more original YA universes of 2011. If you liked Haunting Violet you'll love Languish. less
