review 1: I'm really struggling here, because this book deserves five stars, but I really can't bring myself to do it because I really had to struggle to make myself finish. So I think I'll just call it 4.5:Pro: Beautifully written, multi-dimensional, flawed characters. A lot of times, characters are given a token flaw and then go about being perfect people minus one little thing. This is definitely not the case here. Almost all of Riley's characters are inherently imperfect and their actions bear this out. Con: The story is told primarily from Jeremy's point of view, and holy shit I could not stand him. Who the hell thinks it's a great idea to lie to the police before there's even a hint that anyone he knows is more than tangentially involved? (The answer to this would be that a gu... morey with Jeremy's background would do just that! Which, unfortunately, didn't make me like him any better. This is a terrible reason to call this a con, I know.)Pro: Very tight plot. There is some romance, but the suspense and mystery is what really shone here. On a second read-through, the culprit's actions would probably be clear, but because of each character's flaws, it wasn't until near the end that I could guess who did it, much less why. Well, I did guess, but I also suspected everyone at some point.Con: There are a few switches of points of view in the middle of nowhere. I think it says a lot about how well written the story was in terms of development that this doesn't even bother me very much.
review 2: Very interesting view of Hollywood and the influences the powers have over of the mortals. I think someone said Becket is a tragic character. Agree. I like Jeremy though and feared he would allow his devotion to Becket to override good senses. Ah, Bill. I loved the story between Bill and Chris, more than Jeremy and Becket. I hope the author will write more of Bill Turner. He is interesting character. And the story ending, LOL. I want more of Bill and Kate.DBM was a very good suspense thriller with complex characters and a well paced plot less
