review 1: The first thing I want to say about this book is that its beautiful. It's beauty took my breath away when I read it, and I was seriously in awe of how beautiful and breathtaking this book was. Amy Harmon is a phenomenal writer who magically weaves together a story with so many intricate layers that when put together just make something truly magnificent to read. The characters in this book are well crafted and developed, the story itself flows from the pages, and the feelings that come across in this book are transformative. This book very much reminded me of a coming of age type of book and the main character Blue was such a dynamic and outstanding character to dive into. Her thoughts, her history, her process was just something else entirely, and it was downright exceptio... morenal to get to know her.Blue Echohawk hasn't had a life like most people. She's different, she knows it, and she embraces that about herself. Blue's had a rough life to say the least. She doesn't know much about her past, and she knows even less about her future. A Different Blue is her story, and how she tries to figure out who she really wants to be and where she's going. This book is her transformation. It's her healing. It's the moment when her life is at a crossroads and she must decide who she's going to be and how's she going to be that person. Blue's character was unlike any other I've read. She's got one tough exterior but on the inside that girl feels with all she's got. She is fierce and determined and so gosh darn vulnerable. Reading her character just made me appreciate her and her story that much more because I just really got Blue, where she was coming from, and how she got there. In A Different Blue, Blue enters her senior year of high school in Mr. Wilson's history class. Mr. Wilson is immediately drawn to the enigma that is Blue. He sees the promise in her, the future in her, and that is something that begins to change and transform Blue. The friendship and support system that Blue and Wilson have is very intriguing and what these two bring out in one another is so enthralling. They push each other in subtle and not so subtle ways, and the way that they help each other become something they've always wanted to be is just amazing. Like I said this book has a very coming of age feel to it, but it's also layered with so much feeling, and history, and legend, and transformation, and healing. This book is just packing so much within its beautiful and breathtaking words. I honestly can't say enough how much I loved this book, and how fantastic Amy Harmon's writing is. The story, characters, and layers that she weaves together make such outstanding books with so much magnificence to them.A Different Blue is a different kind of story filled with lots of different things, just like it's filled with different shades of blue. It's got feeling, emotion, vulnerability, questions, answers, legends, truths, hate, hurt, love, and most of all transformation. All of that combines to make one seriously powerful story that will just blow you away. The last thing I want to say about this book is to reiterate the first thing I said about this book: THIS BOOK IS BEAUTIFUL. It will leave you in awe of its beauty and in the end you will feel that immense beauty in your bones.
review 2: I don't normally write reviews. But I don't feel like my 3 star rating tells the whole story. I so badly wanted to like this book in fact they were parts of it that I loved. However there were parts of it that I felt like it drug on. There were so many complex parts to the story and so many heart warming factors. The author did a wonderful job with character development. the part that I struggled with was how long the book was I began skipping paragraphs in order to skip the unnecessary details. Don't get me wrong I love details but some of these were just so long . I really think you should read this book for yourself it was an amazing story so many amazing characters!! less
