review 1: I'm pissed, their admiration for Ambrose was greater than their true desires and Ambrose played with it to talk them into joining the ARMY.I think they took it lightly being such an important commitment.Mr hildy saying "You fight for the guys you serve with." and "The lucky ones are the ones who don't come back. You hear me?”"He'd run away from home and brought his friends with him, his security blanket, his very own cheering section." My thoughts exactly Paulie is so sweet Just like a gummy bear. Please come back to life and marry me. And the song he sang for Jesse? *heart melts*Man, I want friends like Grant, Paulie, Jesse and BeansI wouldn't have been able to live with myself after dragging my friends to their deaths."Deep down they wondered why he hadn't just stayed ... morehome. Why hadn't they all stayed home?" My thoughts exactly “So what's the point? I mean, you've got this amazing body–big, strong. You just going to keep it to yourself? You gotta share it with the world, man.”Bailey is so funny “Have you ever stared at a painting so long that the colors blur and you can't tell what you're looking at anymore? There's no form, face, or shape–just color, just swirls of paint?”“I think people are like that." I completely agree with Fern"... review 2: Where should I start with this one? I have been thinking this review over for about a week and I am still not sure how I can do it properly, how I can do this book enough justice, but here it goes anyway.I loved this story. I simply loved everything about it. Amy Harmon writes just beautiful stories, breathtaking really. Her writing is just so good. She just pulled me in there with her and I just got stuck there and hardly noticed what was going on around me while reading it.I have also read A different Blue, written by her and this one had just as much impact on me. It is very different from A different Blue, but just as powerful in my opinion.This is a story about life. The tragedy and heartache we can go through in life and the horrible affect war can have on life.This is a beautiful love story and it takes place over few years and Amy also takes you to the past once in a while throughout the story. This is not this insta kind of love story like so many out there, with this crazy, possessive alpha male, slapping his chest and shouting out like Tarzan (don´t get me wrong, I really enjoy those books also and I read alot of them!). This lovestory just takes longer time to grow and develope and when it has done that, it´s just beautiful.Nothing is overly done here. Not packed with angst and drama, even though it has it´s moments where I was literally crying, like seriously crying!Life isn´t always easy, life is sometimes hard and cruel and that is something Ambrose and Fern get to try.This book is simply amazing and I highly recommend it.Easy 5 stars from me. less
