review 1: This type of writer uses details to show off his knowledge rather than add to the story. I find a lot of thriller writers do that and I don't understand why. Names of places, streets, irrelevant observations about life: just noise. It doesn't make their world come alive, but maybe they don't need to because the book world is identical to our own. Give me parallel universes and space ships any day. So-Not my cup of tea at all. Great for when I have trouble falling asleep though.
review 2: Taut - that's the word blurb writers use to describe suspense thrillers. This is so taut, the string nearly breaks. Also appropriate: ingenious, as in, ingenious plotting. Trains running on parallel tracks, at one point three or four, all barreling along to a tunnel that they m... moreust get through. Masterful plotting is what gets us there, though by the last 50 pages, the driver is wanting to verify what you already know. Still. I'd pay for ingenious. less
