review 1: I might have liked the main characters more if I had read the first book in the series. As it was, there was character growth especially for Grens but I didn't really understand why he was changing - part of the problem was a lack of Swedish musical knowledge and part of it was I had no idea who his dead wife was. My favorite character was Hoffman but the book did spend an inordinate amount of time with him. I was anxious for the story to get to the point. Finally when everything came to a head in the prison it was a very exciting read and I couldn't help but stay up late to find out how it was resolved. I did guess what the final bit would be but I didn't know how it was going to get there. Since Hoffman was a one-time character and I didn't really care about Grens ... moreor Sundkvist (who was barely there as a character), I don't think I'll continue with this series.
review 2: The last half is much more fun.曾是罪犯的畢耶，出獄後被吸收成為警方滲透販毒組織的最佳臥底。九年期間，他過著說謊的雙面人生─妻子，兩名兒子；販毒組織中的要角。就剩最後一哩，跨國犯罪組織要搶奪監獄裡的市場。畢耶奉命進入監獄，打擊對手，販毒(安非他命)給受刑人，除了賺錢外，那些付不出錢的受刑人在出獄後，就成為組織中無法拒絕任何任務的工具。問題是，用罪犯從事臥底工作，本來就是違法，為了要達到「逮到更大尾壞人」的目的，採取的方法更是對「小犯行」的視而不見。畢耶為了要得到組織信任，花了九年的時間「認真」工作，就在得到完全信任前，一次買賣安非他命的買家，居然暴露了他是警察臥底的秘密，因而導致一場無法避免的處決槍殺。一個從不放棄的老警探伊維特緊咬這樁殘忍的命案，發現越來越多的證據證明這樁謀殺案不是單純的黑道黑吃黑而已。另一方面，畢耶按照計畫進入監獄，但他也知道行動的風險，當進入監獄後，如果他臥底身分曝光後，他一定會在監獄裡慘遭滅口。這是只能靠自己，所有的行動都只能靠自己。畢耶進入監獄開始拓展安非他命事業，正當一切照計畫進行時，官僚們因為伊維特越來越靠近「真相」而決定「燒掉」畢耶，好使他們違法情事不會曝光。之後便是畢耶如何啟動之前自保的方案，最後脅持人質，讓警方調動神射手從1503公尺之外距離狙擊他，而他只有子彈自槍口射出的三秒鐘逃離致命的一擊。故事的精彩其實就在此處。看畢耶如何運毒進監獄─裝在保險套裡的安非他命，再塞進含苞的鬱金香花苞底；在精裝書的底層割出凹槽，可以藏上好幾公克，甚至可以將小手槍解裝偷運進去。看畢耶如何編排自己的死亡和事前安排洗清自己罪嫌的錄音和影像證據等等。這是本要耐點性子看完前面鋪陳才可以進入高潮的厚本小說。正好我的北歐熱還沒退燒，所以覺得閱讀本身還挺有意思的。另外，作者是一名電視制作人/記錄片導演/社會記者和另一個前科犯的組合，更加讓虛構故事有了說服力。最後心得是，瑞典獄政似乎沒有美國的那般黑暗，因為畢耶可以依法借六本書，獄方會從附近的圖書館把書調進來；還可以打電話，即使是被關在單獨的禁閉室裡。對「法」的概念以及遵從的意願，似乎處處可見。所以當官僚們發現他們「便宜行事」的行為就要曝光時，才會這麼恐懼。看來，北歐熱，還會繼續發燙下去。 less
