review 1: The estranged Weird siblings are gathering at their grandmother's death bed to have their curses lifted. Are they curses or are they blessings? I wanted to like this book but I didn't really care about the characters and the ridiculous situations they found themselves in. The magical elements of the story and the outrageous coincidences that kept happening distanced me even more from the characters. So many other people praise Kaufman's novels, so I probably will try another one of his novels.
review 2: I'm struggling to write a review of this book and not give away any spoilers. I don't think it's possible not to mention some part of the story to write a review that is anything more than "Woo, I like this book! You should read it!"The Weird family is... weird.
... more Each sibling was blessed at birth by their grandmother. The blessings were more curse than blessing. Later in life the siblings must gather together to try and remove these blessings... Andrew Kaufman has a great writing style. It draws me in every time and keeps me reading. His character development and interaction just feels so oddly weird that it seems real no matter how bizarre the circumstance."Woo, I like this book! You should read it!" less
